Daylight savings has passed. Spring is almost sprung. (Well, fingers crossed.) And that’s right, we are in the thick of March Madness.

Bracket-obsessed basketball fans everywhere, and tons of non-fans too, may kick off the first weekend of March Madness with a celebration, but that doesn’t mean the celebrating has to stop there. No way. March Madness allows for three crazy weeks of game watching, beer drinking, and water-cooler talking.

Some highlights so far: UMBC upset #1-ranked Virginia. Loyola-Chicago’s team chaplain Sister Jean has become the tournament’s biggest celebrity.

We’ve already seen some crazy moments. And we’re bound to see plenty more.

So, if you’re looking to watch the games with some friends or need an excuse to plan an event, do it with a March Madness theme. You only get one chance a year to do it! Hey, so what if your alma mater got knocked out. Pick another team and get planning!

Party Elements

Whether the event is thrown at home, work, or at an off-site venue, jazz up any space with themed décor like basketball rims over trash cans and inflatable basketballs placed around the room.

If you missed the first weekend, it’s likely many of your guests’ brackets are shot. Ditch the brackets and create a survey for your invite that asks guests who they think will win the games played on the day of your event. Then, hand out a prize to the ones who guested the correct team.

Stay neutral and deck your space with orange and black décor or go all out with the colors of the favored team to win that day.

Any element is “fair game” at your event and that includes the food. Serve circle or ball-shared appetizers like cheese balls, meatballs, or any other food that can be easily rolled into a ball.

Get Everyone Involved

Play basketball video games during halftime. If you don’t have any, rent one.

Crank up the basketball tunes. Play lively music that’ll put your guests in the mood. Find team warm-up mixes or college basketball-inspired playlists on any music service.

Create a NCAA tournament history trivia game and play it during halftime.

And last but not least…do something your guests will least expect. Throw a silent disco. If your event is held in a public space, give your guests a pair of Party Headphones to watch the game. Then, when it’s halftime or the game has ended, switch the headphones to play music and throw yourselves a dance party.
